The UCU Canons will be aiming to return to winning form when they face the high-flying JT Jaguars tonight in the National Basketball League (NBL) at the YMCA Basketball Court in Wandegeya, Kampala.
Still reeling from a 72-82 defeat to the unbeaten Namuwongo Blazers, the Canons are eager to bounce back and improve their season record to 6-4. With the first round of the league nearing its conclusion, a win would significantly boost their hopes of securing a top-four spot.
Much will depend on captain Ibanda Lwabaga, who was instrumental in their previous outing. Lwabaga delivered a standout performance, scoring 10 of the team’s 16 points in the second quarter, and will need to replicate that form to lead UCU past the gritty Jaguars.
However, they’ll be up against a Jaguars side full of confidence. Boasting a 5-2 record, their only losses have come against the Namuwongo Blazers and Victoria Crocs. The Jaguars have pulled off major upsets this season, stunning top teams like KCCA, Oilers, Rockets, and the KIU Titans—and they’ll be eager to continue that run.
The stage is set for a fierce battle. The question remains: who will handle the pressure and come out on top?
In the women’s division, the KIU Rangers face a daunting task as they battle on the reigning champions, JKL Lady Dolphins. The Rangers are riding a winning streak, but they’ll need a near-perfect performance to overcome a dominant Dolphins side that has been unstoppable this season.
