Kitara FC needed a stoppage-time moment of brilliance from Isaac Amutuhaire to edge Police FC 2–1 in a tense Uganda Premier League clash played on Thursday evening at the Kira Road Play Ground.
Police had fought back bravely after a difficult first half, but Kitara’s late surge ensured they returned home with all three points.
Patrick Kaddu opened the scoring for the visitors in the 8th minute, calmly converting a penalty awarded after goalkeeper Edward Kasibante brought down Amutuhaire in the box. The early goal gave Kitara control, though the game quickly turned physical, with both sides picking up early cautions—Police captain Saida Kyeyune and Kitara’s Jimmy Kalema both booked in a feisty opening quarter.
The hosts survived several scares, including a superb save from Kasibante moments before halftime to deny Kalema, keeping the deficit at just one going into the break.

Police returned for the second half with renewed intent. Their pressure paid off in the 63rd minute when Lawrence Tezikya finished off a well-constructed move to level the contest at 1–1, energising the home crowd and setting up a gripping final half hour.
Both teams continued to trade attacks, with substitutions made on either side to chase a winner. A second water break slowed the momentum briefly, but the match regained its edge as tempers flared and tackles flew in.
Just when the scrap looked destined for a draw, Kitara found the breakthrough deep into added time. In the 90+2 minute, Amutuhaire who had won the early penalty pounced with a decisive finish past Kasibante to restore Kitara’s lead and silence the Police supporters.
Despite Police pushing forward desperately in the dying moments, Kitara held firm sealing a hard-earned away victory.
