Hussein Mbalangu will immediately set about restoring URA FC’s winning identity, starting with the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar, after being confirmed as the club’s new head coach for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The CAF A–licensed coach has been handed the task of reviving the Tax Collectors following an underwhelming start to the league campaign, replacing Alex Isabirye Musongola as the club looks to reset its season. His contract runs until the end of the campaign, with an option for renewal based on performance.

Mbalangu steps into the role at a critical juncture and brings along a trusted technical team that was officially unveiled on Monday in Zanzibar. Bastu Semuyaba will serve as first assistant coach, with Richard Kansole named second assistant. Goalkeeping duties have been assigned to Muwadda Byuma, while Farouk Osama takes charge of physical conditioning as fitness trainer.

As part of the changes, interim head coach Edward Golola has been released. However, URA FC have retained some continuity within the backroom staff, keeping Manko Kawesa as deputy fitness trainer and Isma Sserebe in his role as team statistician.

Speaking during his unveiling ahead of the Mapinduzi Cup, Mbalangu outlined his intentions with confidence. “We are here to work and to bring back the success this great club deserves. I thank the management for the trust and the opportunity. We are ready to start immediately, beginning with the Mapinduzi Cup. Those who haven’t played URA FC yet should get scared — we are here to win,” he said.

The new URA FC boss boasts vast experience from across the region, having previously coached Banadir SC (now Mogadishu City) in Somalia, Blacks Power, Arua Hill, Mbarara City and most recently NEC FC.

His first test comes on December 31, when URA FC open their Mapinduzi Cup campaign against Mlandenge FC at the Amaan Stadium. With renewed belief and a clear direction, the club is hopeful that Mbalangu’s appointment marks the beginning of a positive turnaround.
