Uganda men’s basketball is entering a new chapter as the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) names Bosnian coach Goran Lojo the new leader of the Silverbacks. Lojo replaces George Galanopolous, who has guided the team through five years of continental competitions.
Lojo brings a wealth of international experience, having led club teams and national programs across Europe, including a highly successful tenure with the Bosnia and Herzegovina Women’s National Team. Under his leadership, Bosnia secured a historic fifth-place finish at the 2021 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket and qualified for their first-ever FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in 2022.

Lojo is no stranger to Ugandan basketball, having previously overseen the Gazelles’ training camp in Germany ahead of the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Qualifiers. His appointment signals a shift toward a more structured, internationally-informed program for the Silverbacks.
The coach’s first challenge comes in the opening round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers, where Uganda is drawn against hosts Egypt, Angola, and Mali. The qualifiers, scheduled from February 26 to March 1, will test Lojo’s strategies and the Silverbacks’ readiness on Africa’s elite stage.
With a proven track record of transforming teams and developing players, Lojo’s tenure promises not just a continuation of past efforts but a bold new approach aimed at elevating Uganda basketball on the world stage.
