Uganda Premier League Today, 4pm
BUL v SC Villa
SC Villa step onto the pitch at the FUFA Technical Centre this afternoon with more than just another league fixture on their minds. A win against BUL FC would thrust the record champions into pole position in a Uganda Premier League title race that is threatening to turn into a weekly game of musical chairs.
Rather than chasing, Villa suddenly find themselves with the chance to dictate terms. Midweek results elsewhere have subtly shifted the landscape KCCA’s stumble in Luzira and Police’s narrow progress have left the door ajar. Villa, idle on Wednesday, now hold the key to climbing above a tightly packed group where a single point separates first from fifth.
Momentum, at least, is on their side. Zeljko Kovacevic’s side appear to be peaking at the right moment, blending control with a renewed edge in attack. The statement 3–0 dismantling of URA announced their intent, while gritty wins over Express and Calvary suggested a team learning how to manage games when flair alone isn’t enough. The lingering concern remains their travels; previous slips against Maroons and KCCA serve as reminders that Villa can be punished when concentration dips.
In the final third, Villa arrive with variety rather than reliance on one star. Kasinde and Ssebuufu bring bite and movement, while the experienced trio of Najib Yiga, Hassan Mubiru and Charles Lwanga offer invention and speed capable of unsettling any backline.

BUL, however, are far from a convenient opponent. The return of Alex Isabirye has reset the mood in Njeru, with the seasoned coach eager to reassert authority after a turbulent period at the club. The memory of a painful 3–1 home loss to Police still lingers, and the Eastern Giants are keen to remind visitors that Njeru can still be hostile ground.
Isabirye’s history adds spice. Few coaches know how to frustrate Villa quite like him, having done so in previous spells with BUL and during stints at URA and Vipers. With Karim Ndugwa marshalled by the energy of Reagan Kalyowa, Martin Aprem and Jerome Kirya, BUL will look to disrupt Villa’s rhythm and expose any cracks.
Beyond Njeru, the title narrative continues to twist. Attention shifts to Nakivubo tomorrow where Vipers meet URA in the standout clash, following Express’ encounter with Buhimba United Saints. URA boss Hussein Mbalangu is already under pressure to respond after a losing start, while Vipers must adapt to life without Allan Okello, now bound for Young Africans.
For Villa, though, the equation is simple. Handle business in Njeru, and the summit beckons. In a season where margins are razor-thin, opportunities like this don’t come twice.

Sounds like a really interesting challenge for SC Villa! I’m looking forward to seeing how they approach the game against BUL.
