What was expected to be a routine Stanbic Uganda Cup outing turned into another chapter of cup folklore as Football Classroom once again defied the odds, knocking out Uganda Premier League side Calvary FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
The non-league outfit showed no respect for pedigree, absorbing early pressure before growing into the contest. Calvary briefly looked in control when Ibrahim Dada broke the deadlock midway through the first half, but their advantage was short-lived as Football Classroom refused to be overawed, striking back before the break to reset the contest.
The turning point came moments after halftime. Fuelled by belief and fearless ambition, Football Classroom emerged sharper and more purposeful, taking command of midfield battles and set pieces. Moses Sseruyidde’s expertly taken free kick swung momentum decisively their way, leaving Calvary chasing shadows.
With confidence surging, Football Classroom dictated the tempo and punished defensive hesitancy. Stephen Yiga’s thunderous effort from distance put daylight between the two sides and underlined the growing gulf in hunger and execution on the day.
By the final whistle, the upset felt fully earned. Football Classroom’s organization, discipline and attacking intent eclipsed a Calvary side that never recovered from the second-half onslaught. The victory propels the cup debutants into the round of 32, where they will await their next test.
For Calvary, the Uganda Cup exit deepens a season already spiralling out of control. Rooted to the bottom of the league table and winless after 15 matches, they become the second top-flight casualty at this stage, raising fresh questions about their direction as Football Classroom’s dream run rolls on.
