The “fesh-fesh” dust of Naivasha is calling, and Uganda is answering in force. As the 2026 WRC Safari Rally (March 12–15) approaches, four of Uganda’s finest crews have officially confirmed their entry, carrying the hopes of a nation into the world’s most grueling motorsport event.

Yasin

Leading the charge is the reigning African Rally Champion (ARC), Yasin Nasser. Navigated by Ali Katumba in their Moil-sponsored Ford Fiesta, Nasser is focused on a “two-in-one” victory—scoring both World Championship and ARC points.

While speaking to Roramedia after testing his car in Mityana recently, Nasser emphasized the mental and physical toll of the race: “The Safari is a crazy event which tests man and machine. As Team Moil, our target is to go pick ARC points and start our title defense on a good note.”

From the roadside to the cockpit, Oscar Ntambi’s story is the heartbeat of this year’s contingent. Backed by KCB Bank Uganda, Ntambi and co-driver Asuman Muhammad have been fine-tuning their newly acquired Mitsubishi Evo X Ralliart.
For Ntambi, this debut in a world-class machine is a lifelong dream realized. “Representing KCB Bank Uganda at the WRC is a great honour. This journey, born from a passion for speed, is now about showcasing Ugandan motorsport to the world.” Oscar Ntambi said.

His navigator, Asuman Muhammad, who brings prior Safari experience to the team, added, “it is a dream come true to line up for the Safari Rally… our focus is to stay consistent, manage the car carefully, and finish strong.”

Rounding out the squad are the legendary Duncan Mubiru (popularly known as “Kikankane”) and Timothy Gawaya.
Gawaya, who will be driving a 2WD Seat Ibiza, isn’t intimidated by the global stage. In an earlier interview with Roramedia, he shared his strategic mindset for the 350 km challenge: “The target is to finish the event and enjoy ourselves as much as possible. We are preparing in terms of physical fitness, emotional preps and finances.” — Timothy Gawaya says.

The 2026 edition features a major shift: the ceremonial start has moved from Nairobi to Naivasha. Drivers will tackle 20 special stages, including the infamous Sleeping Warrior and the Hell’s Gate Power Stage.
As Yasin Nasser told the press during his final preparations: “Just making the start list is a big achievement as not every car passes the test.”
