The Futsal Uganda Cup quarterfinals delivered a masterclass in clinical finishing and defensive grit at the Old Kampala Futsal Arena, as the final four teams booked their spots in the next round.
While Mengo City FC stole the headlines with a seven-goal blizzard, Lubiri Falcons proved their mettle in a high-stakes tactical battle.
If there was any doubt about Mengo City FC’s title ambitions, they were silenced in a dominant 7-0 demolition of Entebbe Cheetahs FC. From the first whistle, Mengo played with a tempo that the Cheetahs simply couldn’t match.
Akram Ssali was the star of the show, bagging a sensational hat-trick. Ian Tugume opened the floodgates in the 3rd minute before Ssali and Joshua Aziku put the game out of reach before halftime.
Tugume added a second in the late stages, with Sam Omara putting the icing on the cake to seal a perfect team performance.
While Mengo enjoyed a cruise, Lubiri Falcons had to survive a late onslaught to edge Kisenyi FC 2-1.
Hassan Kalule gave the Falcons an early lead, and Katumba Abdulrahman’s strike in the 14th minute looked to have put Lubiri in a comfortable position. However, Kisenyi’s Baker Arinda pulled one back in the 33rd minute, setting up a frantic finale. Lubiri’s disciplined defense held firm under immense pressure to secure their semifinal berth.
High-Scoring Drama Elsewhere
The goals continued to flow in the other quarterfinal matchups. Edgars Youth Programme emerged as the highest scorers of the night, dismantling Lubaga Grameen in a staggering 11-5 victory. Meanwhile, Mbarara QC showed their class with a 4-2 win over Kabowa Dream Team FC, ensuring Western Uganda is represented in the final four.
The Road to the Final
The stage is now set for a blockbuster semifinal Friday. These four giants will battle it out for a place in the prestigious Futsal Uganda Cup final:
