The 3rd Edition of Uganda’s National Badminton League began in emphatic fashion at Lugogo Indoor Arena, Kampala, with debutants SR KUKU stealing the spotlight through dominant opening-day performances.
New entrants SR KUKU wasted no time making their mark, fielding a star-studded squad packed with national-team experience. Their notable recruits include:
Shamika Fadilah Africa’s top seed,
Gladys Mbabazi, experienced national player and Kenneth Mwambu aseasoned competitor.

Their ambition appears immediate: challenge for both the Super League and Corporate League crowns in their first season.Club official Raphael Mutuuta explained that after previously sponsoring badminton, the organization decided to launch its own team to strengthen brand visibility and deepen involvement in the sport.

Meanwhile, Gladys Mbabazi said her return to Uganda after training commitments made this the right time to compete again, while also mentoring younger players.
Strong Opening-Day Statement SR KUKU backed up the hype with commanding victories in the Super League, SR KUKU 5–0 Ndejje University and SR KUKU 5–0 KBC .While in the Corporate League ,SR KUKU Corporate 5–0 Baryan BC and SR KUKU 4–1 Equity Bank.
Those results suggest they could become the team to beat unless the league’s traditional powers respond quickly.

Uganda Badminton Federation president Annet Nakamya emphasized that the league remains vital for Tracking player development, Raising domestic competition standards and
Building future national-team talent.
She also announced a schools league beginning in June, with the first event set for Seroma Christian High School.
