Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) will be looking to maintain their supremacy over Bugema University as the two sides clash today in the first leg of the Pepsi University Football League (UFL) semi finals at Nkozi Grounds, Mpigi.

UMU boasts a superior head-to-head record, having won four of their last seven meetings, with only two losses both via penalty shootouts. Their latest triumph came in December during the East Africa University Games in Maseno, Kenya, where they edged Bugema 4-2 on penalties enroute to claiming gold.

Currently unbeaten this season, UMU enters the tie in fine form, particularly at home where they’ve taken 10 of a possible 12 points. However, they’ll be without key players Ivan Agamile and Taban Wijo (injured), along with Francis Ogwang and Ronald Obedi Giu (suspended). The return of striker Akbar Ssentongo offers a timely boost.

Bugema, who progressed controversially past Muteesa I Royal University in the quarters, have yet to win in Nkozi. Despite that, Coach Meddy Nyanzi remains upbeat: “We’re not intimidated. We’ve prepared well and I’m confident we’ll get a good result.”

UMU will bank on attackers Sanny Kaija and Joseph Kayondo, while Bugema will look to Sulaiman Ssentongo and Innocent Masuk to deliver up front.
