Uganda’s long-distance sensation Jacob Kiplimo delivered an inspiring performance at the 2025 London Marathon, finishing second with a time of 2:03:37. Kiplimo, known for his calm demeanor and devastating finishing kick, put up a brave fight but was ultimately edged out by Kenya’s Sebastian Sawe, who stormed to victory in 2:02:27.
In what was billed as one of the fastest and most competitive fields in recent memory, Kiplimo stayed with the lead pack for much of the race. As the kilometers wore on, it became clear that the battle for the title would come down to the final stretch between him and Sawe.

Despite Kiplimo’s best efforts to close the gap in the final miles, Sawe maintained his blistering pace to secure the win, clocking the third-fastest time in London Marathon history. Kiplimo, crossing the line just over a minute later, recorded a personal best and reinforced his reputation as one of the finest distance runners of his generation.
The 23-year-old’s runner-up finish hints at an even brighter future on the roads having competed in the marathon for the first time. With the World Championships and the Olympics on the horizon, Kiplimo’s London showing will surely boost his confidence as he targets even greater success.
