Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) cemented their place as the most successful side in the Pepsi University Football League history after a commanding 3-0 victory over St. Lawrence University at Wankulukuku Stadium on Sunday.

The Nkozi-based outfit, playing in their fourth-ever final, produced a masterclass performance to claim their third title, adding to their previous triumphs in 2017 and 2022. Ironically, just like in 2022, it was St. Lawrence who once again fell victim to Uganda Martyrs’ championship charge. Their first title came at the expense of MUBS, whom they beat in 2017, while they tasted defeat in the 2015 final, also against MUBS.

Coming into this year’s grand finale, Uganda Martyrs carried the weight of expectation as the only unbeaten side in the competition—and they lived up to their billing. A fast-paced first half saw Calvin Peter Emayo break the deadlock, sending the UMU fans into wild celebrations. Moments later, Crispus Sseruwunge doubled their advantage with a well-taken finish, giving UMU a strong 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Any hopes of a St. Lawrence comeback were quickly dashed early in the second half when Ronald Obedgiu put the result beyond doubt with a third goal, sealing a dominant performance for Uganda Martyrs. Despite a few spirited attacks from St. Lawrence, the day belonged to UMU, who held firm to maintain their unbeaten record all the way to the title.

For St. Lawrence, it was a familiar heartbreak. Having now reached the final three times without lifting the trophy—losing to Uganda Christian University (UCU) in 2019 and twice to Uganda Martyrs in 2022 and 2025—their hunt for a maiden title continues.

Uganda Martyrs now stand alone at the summit of University Football League history with three titles, overtaking both MUBS and Kampala University, who each have two championships to their name.

As the celebrations echoed across Wankulukuku, it was clear: Uganda Martyrs University have truly etched their name in the history books—and they did it in style.
