The Uganda U-17 national team, the Cubs are gearing up for a landmark moment as they prepare to make their first-ever appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, set to take place in Qatar in 2025.
Following the official tournament draw, Uganda has been placed in Group K, where they will face a challenging lineup of global football giants: France, Chile, and Canada.
Uganda earned their spot on the world stage with a thrilling 2-1 playoff victory over The Gambia in Morocco. Despite conceding in the opening minute, James Bogere’s two first-half goals turned the tide, securing the historic win. With that triumph, the Cubs etched their names into the record books as the first Ugandan team to qualify for a FIFA World Cup at any level.
Their qualification marks a major milestone in Ugandan football and stands as a testament to the growing strength of the nation’s youth programs a direct result of FUFA’s continued investment in player development and grassroots talent.
