Team Uganda Set to Compete at the 2nd FIDE Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities in Kazakhstan

The Uganda Chess Federation, in collaboration with the Sports Outreach Ministry’s Differently Abled Chess Program have announced three players from SOM Chess Academy’s differently-abled chess initiative have been selected to join the national team representing Uganda at the 2nd FIDE Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities, to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The prestigious international event, organized under the auspices of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), will take place at the Paralympic Centre in Astana from October 19th to 25th, 2025. It brings together exceptional players from around the world, showcasing the power of inclusion, resilience, and talent in the global chess community.

Uganda’s delegation will comprise:
Masiko Ezekiel – Team Captain
Nakamyah Hannah Musinguzi – Player
Mbaziira Sharif Wasswa – Player
Seguya Enock – Player
Mugwanya Wilson – Accompanying Person.

The team is set to
depart for Kazakhstan on Saturday, October 18, 2025, and will proudly fly Uganda’s flag high on the world stage. This participation marks another milestone in Uganda’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities through sports, providing a platform for them to demonstrate their capabilities and inspire others.

Speaking about the engagement, Coach Robert Katende, founder of the Differently Abled Chess Program under Sports Outreach Ministry, noted:

“This is a moment of pride for Uganda and a testament to what is possible when inclusion meets opportunity. Our players have trained diligently and carry with them the spirit of perseverance and national pride.”

The Ugandan delegation extends gratitude to all supporters, partners, and organizations that have continued to promote inclusive sports and nurture talent across all abilities.
