A twist in Nalugya’s transfer as European side enters race for her signature

Kampala Queens’ star midfielder and captain, Shamirah Nalugya, is on the verge of a move to Europe, with Swedish top-flight side Malmo FF set to secure her signature.

The 21-year-old has been in advanced talks with the Damallsvenskan club and is expected to join in July, becoming eligible to feature in the league’s second round in August.

Nalugya was recently believed to have been in advanced talks with Kenya Police Bullets, but the Malmö FF move is now set to take her to Europe.

Boost to Malmo FF’s Midfield

Nalugya’s arrival will strengthen Malmo FF’s midfield options, joining Algerian international Ines Belloumou, who is on loan from West Ham. She will be the fourth foreign player on Malmo’s roster. Currently, Malmo FF occupies fourth place in the Damallsvenskan standings with 20 points from 10 matches.

Nalugya’s Impressive Form

Since joining Kampala Queens in January 2022, Nalugya has won two league titles, including the recently concluded 2024-25 season. She was named the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) after scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in 21 appearances.

International Duty

Nalugya is currently with the Uganda national women’s team, the Crested Cranes, preparing for the 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship. Her move to Malmo FF marks a significant milestone in her career, and she is expected to make a big impact in the Damallsvenskan league.
