In a move signaling intent and ambition, newly-promoted Uganda Premier League side Gaddafi FC has appointed Coach Abdullah Mubiru as the club’s new head coach on a two-year contract.
Mubiru, widely regarded as one of Uganda’s most tactically astute coaches, brings a wealth of experience and pedigree to the role. Over the past decade, he has managed some of the country’s most notable clubs, including KCCA FC, Police FC, Vipers SC, and Proline FC, while also enjoying a stint in Tanzania with Mbeya City FC.
He previously served as assistant coach of the Uganda Cranes under former head coach Jonathan McKinstry, cementing his reputation at both club and national level.
Speaking after his unveiling, Mubiru expressed excitement about joining a club with deep community ties and promising potential.
“This isn’t just about managing a team, it’s about creating something meaningful,” Mubiru said.
“Gaddafi FC has a strong local identity and passionate supporters. I want to build a team that reflects that passion, that plays with a clear structure, and competes with courage and intelligence.”
Club President Opio Joseph Okurut described Mubiru’s arrival as a milestone in Gaddafi’s transformation into a stable and forward-looking football institution.
“Coach Mubiru was not hired just for his resume we chose him because his values match ours,” Okurut stated.
“We are investing in a football culture that prioritizes discipline, strategy, and sustainability. His leadership is key to shaping this culture.”
With the club preparing for its first full season in the top flight, Mubiru will be tasked with assembling a competitive squad, developing youth talent, and establishing a tactical identity that mirrors Gaddafi FC’s aspirations to become a consistent force in Ugandan football.
The announcement has stirred excitement among fans and stakeholders, with many viewing Mubiru’s appointment as a statement of intent.
The club has called upon the entire Gaddafi FC fraternity supporters, sponsors, and community leaders—to rally behind the new technical team and play a role in shaping what could be the club’s most important chapter yet.
