After suffering a bruising defeat in their last outing, Bishop Stuart University (BSU) return to action today with redemption on their minds as they travel to Buloba to face spirited newcomers African Renewal University (ARU) in the Pepsi University Football League (UFL).
The Mbarara-based side was left reeling after a 4-0 thumping by Bugema University two weeks ago a result that ended their unbeaten start and dented their early momentum. Today’s clash, therefore, offers more than just three points; it’s a chance for BSU to prove their resilience and reaffirm their status as genuine contenders in Group B.
They will be keen to fix the defensive lapses that cost them dearly against Bugema, while also reigniting their attacking spark that saw them open the campaign with promise. With qualification stakes tightening, anything short of victory could complicate their route to the knockout stage.
But standing in their way is an ARU side brimming with optimism and hungry for a maiden win in the competition. The Buloba-based debutants are steadily finding their feet in the UFL, having picked up their first-ever point in a spirited 1–1 draw with Kabale University last month.
The stakes are high in Group B, where every point now carries weight. Muteesa I Royal University currently lead the table with nine points from three matches, trailed by Bugema (5 pts) and BSU (3 pts). Kabale University sit on 2 points, while ARU and IUEA are tied at the bottom with 1 point apiece.
For BSU, victory today would catapult them into second place and reignite their campaign. For ARU, a win would mark another historic milestone their first in the UFL and signal that the debutants are no longer in the league just to learn, but to compete.
