UPDF v BUL

After a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Lugazi FC on Tuesday, BUL Football Club are determined to end the first round on a high as they travel to Bombo military grounds to face UPDF FC on Friday.

The Eastern Giants have struggled on the road this season, managing only a solitary away victory—a 1-0 triumph over Calvary FC three weeks ago—but optimism is high ahead of this clash. BUL currently sit ninth on the table with 16 points from 14 games, a record built on four wins, four draws, and six defeats.

UPDF FC arrive in poor form as well, having suffered a 4-0 home loss to KCCA FC in their previous outing. The military side is anchored at 14th place on the log with 11 points, winning only three of their 14 matches this season. Their lone home victory came against Lugazi FC in early December.

UPDF line up.

History suggests an exciting contest. In their last meeting, BUL edged UPDF 3-2 in Bombo last year. Over sixteen encounters since 2015, both sides have seven wins each, with two draws, highlighting the balanced nature of this fixture.

Team Updates:
BUL’s squad is at full strength, with defender Walter Ochora returning from suspension. Manager Alex Isabirye is confident the team has addressed the mistakes that led to the Lugazi loss.

“I thank God for the gift of life. Our defeat to Lugazi was just a bad day, not a bad performance. The team has worked hard to correct those errors and we are fully prepared for UPDF,” said Isabirye.

Forward Ibrahim Orit echoed the sentiment, urging fans to back the team in large numbers. “Both teams have had a rough season, but we are motivated and focused on taking all three points from Bombo,” he said.

Stats & Facts:

BUL has one away win, three losses, and two draws this season.

UPDF have lost four of five home games, collecting just four points from 18.

In the last nine meetings between the sides, BUL have won four times, scoring 17 goals and conceding 14.

Only two of the last sixteen encounters ended in draws; the rest produced a winner.

BUL will need to improve their away form and tighten their defence if they are to claim the three points and finish the first round strongly.
