Calvary FC progressed within touching distance of their first-ever Uganda Premier League promotion after a convincing 3-0 win over a ten-man Kaaro Karungi in the FUFA Big League clash held at Midigo Playground.

Christopher Agotre, Simon Peter Odeke, and Junior Emmanuel Ojok goals secured all three points for the West Nile side, who now sit joint-top of the table with Buhimba Saints United on 48 points. However, Calvary has played one more game than the league leaders.

Calvary started brightly, taking the lead inside the opening ten minutes when Agotre rifled in a thunderous strike from outside the box. They continued to dominate proceedings but were wasteful in front of goal, with Ojok notably missing a golden opportunity during a goalmouth scramble.

Their persistence paid off just before halftime, as Odeke doubled the advantage, giving the hosts a deserved 2-0 lead at the break.

Kaaro Karungi’s task grew even tougher in the second half when they were reduced to ten men following a foul in the penalty area. However, Calvary couldn’t capitalize immediately, as Lawrence Olaboro saw his spot-kick saved.

Ojok eventually redeemed his earlier miss by netting Calvary’s third after a smooth one-two with Oscar Agaba, calmly slotting past the keeper to round off a dominant performance.

This result marks back-to-back victories for Calvary, who had edged Kiyinda Boys 1-0 just days earlier. With 48 points from 26 matches and only two games left, they remain firmly in the hunt for promotion.

On the other hand, Kaaro Karungi’s away woes continued, having also lost 1-0 to Paidha Black Angels earlier in the week. They now find themselves in 10th place with 30 points from 25 matches just two points above the relegation zone.

Next Fixtures:
Calvary FC will travel to face Onduparaka at the Ababet Greenlight Stadium on June 15 while Kaaro Karungi will host Buhimba Saints United at Kyamate Stadium on June 8.
