Wanderers endured yet another setback in the National Men’s 50 Over Premiership League, falling to Avengers by 7 wickets on Sunday—despite a standout performance from former captain Davis Karashani.
Coming off their first win of the season last weekend—a 25-run victory over Rounders that snapped a four-game losing streak—Wanderers looked poised to build momentum. They posted a respectable 250/8, a total that often proves defendable. However, a commanding century from Avengers skipper Yashashvi Joshi turned the game on its head.
Karashani smashed 70 off just 45 balls, while Abdul Basit Habib added a steady 64 off 99 to anchor Wanderers’ innings. But Joshi’s superb knock of 100 from 98 deliveries—his first century of the season and the day’s only ton—powered Avengers to a confident win.
He was supported by Abraiz Mir Ali with 62 (85) and an unbeaten 29 off 20 balls from Christopher Kidega, guiding Avengers to their second win of the season and a perfect start to the second round.
Elsewhere, Ceylon Lions, Kutchi Tigers, and JACC also registered victories to kick off the round.
Table leaders Ceylon Lions edged Aboojo by 2 wickets (D/L method), with Juma Miyaji top-scoring with 30 runs at No. 8, and Brighton Muganzi claiming four wickets.
Defending champions Kutchi Tigers cruised past Tornado Bees by 54 runs, thanks to an explosive 74-run knock from Mitul Pindoriya. Their bowling unit fired as well, with Alpesh Hirani taking four wickets and Vikariya Kush Manesh grabbing three. Tornado Bees’ Cyrus Kibukamusoke also bagged four wickets in a losing effort.
JACC completed a season double over city rivals Rounders, thrashing them by 81 runs. Despite scoring just two runs, JACC captain Kenneth Waiswa shone with the ball, taking five wickets and pulling off two vital catches to remove Rounders’ top scorers, Narinder Singh (33) and Steven Wabwose (24). Paul Mulongo led JACC’s batting with a solid 65-run knock.
In the Championship division, newcomers GM Sugar continued their dominance in Group B, hammering Mukono Warriors by 118 runs to maintain a perfect record with 8 points from 4 games.
In Group A, Kings College Budo crushed Jinja SS by 134 runs, powered by Robert Owili’s 51. Kenneth Isiiko stood out for Jinja SS with four wickets.
Meanwhile, Nile secured a 68-run win over Patidar, with Jimson Wankona leading the way by claiming five wickets.
