City Oilers kicked off the second round of the National Basketball League (NBL) in emphatic fashion, cruising to an 87-48 victory over Livingstone on Sunday at YMCA Court in Wandegeya.

Despite a slow start that saw them trail 10-15 after the first quarter, the ten-time champions regrouped and took control of the game. A 21-13 second quarter gave them a narrow 31-28 lead at halftime.

The Oilers exploded in the third quarter, overwhelming Livingstone with a 36-6 run that effectively put the game out of reach. They maintained their dominance in the final quarter, outscoring their opponents 20-14 to seal a convincing 39-point win.

Fayed Baale led the scoring for the Oilers with 19 points, followed by Benjamin Kawumi with 16, Malual Dier with 14, and Edgar Munaaba with 12—four players finishing in double digits.

For Livingstone, Isaac Athuai Akoal was the standout performer, recording 14 points and 9 rebounds in an otherwise difficult outing for his team.

The Oilers controlled the boards with a 53-46 rebounding advantage and showcased their depth, contributing 29 points off the bench compared to Livingstone’s 19. They also forced 33 turnovers, while only committing 16 themselves.

This win improves the Oilers’ record to 6-6 as they aim for a stronger second-round campaign. The team is also expected to bolster its squad soon, with potential signings including Petty Parrish, Moses Maker, Germaine Roebuck, and David Dikong.

Livingstone, on the other hand, fell to their 11th loss of the season. Their only win so far remains a victory over the league’s bottom team, KIU Titans.
