Uganda’s national football team, the Cranes, are gearing up for a high-profile international friendly against Morocco as preparations intensify ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The match, slated for November 18 in Tangier, comes as part of the FIFA International Window and will serve as a key test for Coach Paul Put’s side against one of the continent’s most formidable teams.
Morocco’s football federation confirmed the fixture, which will precede another friendly for the Atlas Lions against Mozambique.
While FUFA is yet to release an official statement, the encounter provides Uganda with a valuable opportunity to fine-tune tactics, assess new combinations, and adapt to North African playing conditions especially significant given that Morocco will host the AFCON finals kicking off December 21.
The Cranes, who are drawn in a challenging group alongside Nigeria, Tunisia, and Tanzania, will view this contest as a barometer of their readiness. Facing a team ranked among Africa’s elite, Uganda will have a chance to gauge their defensive organization, creativity in midfield, and attacking efficiency against world-class opposition.
Uganda’s last meeting with Morocco ended in a humbling 5–2 defeat during the 2021 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Douala, Cameroon a result that still lingers in the memory of fans. This time, however, the Cranes will aim to show growth, resilience, and renewed tactical maturity.
Sources also indicate that Uganda could play another warm-up match, possibly against Chad, before wrapping up their AFCON preparations.
With just weeks to go before Africa’s biggest football showpiece, the trip to Tangier offers not just a test of ability, but a measure of ambition to see whether Uganda can stand toe-to-toe with the continent’s best when it matters most.
