Crested Cranes head coach Sheryl Botes has appointed Zainah Namuleme, a midfielder for Makerere University Women FC, as the team’s new captain.
Botes has chosen experience for her leadership team, selecting seasoned players to lead the charge ahead of the CECAFA Women Senior Championship in Tanzania.

Leadership Team
Namuleme will be assisted by Zainah Nandede, the reigning Female Player of the Year and a winger for Kampala Queens, who will serve as the first deputy captain.
Tournament Experience
Namuleme will be playing in her fourth CECAFA Women’s tournament, having previously featured in the 2016, 2018, and 2019 editions.

Upcoming Matches
Uganda will kick off their CECAFA Women’s Senior Championship title defense campaign against Burundi, and later face South Sudan on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Azam Complex in Tanzania.
The tournament will feature five teams – Kenya, Uganda, hosts Tanzania, South Sudan, and Burundi – playing in a round-robin format from June 13-21.
Defending the Title
Uganda emerged champions when the championship was last held in 2022, and the team will be looking to retain their title under the leadership of Namuleme and Nandede.
