In a media conversation,Buweekula Ssaza chairman Richard Kasumba revealed that eight senior players have left the Mubende-based side. Some were issued release letters, while others mutually agreed to terminate their contracts after failing to renew their stay with the champions.

The departing players include striker Shafiq Sonko, midfielder Mike Kayongo, center-backs Calvin Pariyo and Jonathan Luyonde, as well as Collins Ssemanda, Martin Kayemba, Shafic Nyanzi and Fahad Aniku.

Striker Shafiq Sonko, along with sharp shooter Shafic Nyanzi, defensive duo Pariyo and Luyonde, have completed big-money moves to Bulemeezi, the three-time champions under guidance of manager Mutalaaga. Kasumba expressed confidence in the team’s directions”All is set. We are going to have a very good season. We have an experienced coaching staff ready to take on the challenge and ensure Buweekula has a fruitful campaign,” he told Rora Media Sports Uganda.

Buweekula head into the 2026 season aiming to become the first Ssaza team to win back-to-back Masaza Cup titles.

The “Nakayima Boys” were crowned champions in 2025 under coach Felix Ssekabuuza Ssalongo after a 1-0 victory over Singo at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo. The decisive moment came from Alex Talemwa, whose brilliant solo effort and long-range strike sealed the win.

That triumph earned Buweekula the right to host the 2026 Masaza Cup, with preparations already underway for the tournament opener scheduled for June 13.
