Lugazi FC have bolstered their technical bench with the addition of veteran tactician Francis Mugerwa, who joins the club on a one-year renewable contract. Mugerwa will work alongside head coach Steven Bogere as co-coaches, as the club sets its sights on improving performances in the upcoming Uganda Premier League season.
Mugerwa, a CAF A licensed coach, brings a wealth of experience from his time with various top-tier Ugandan sides, including Proline, Maroons, Onduparaka, Kitara, Arua Hill, and Bright Stars. He also had a stint on the coaching staff at Vipers SC during the 2020/21 campaign.
This move signals a deliberate effort by Lugazi FC to strengthen their technical team with seasoned football minds capable of nurturing young talent and delivering consistent results.

Bogere, who led the team to the round of 16 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup and steered them to safety with a 13th-place finish in their debut UPL season, remains a central figure at the club. Mugerwa’s arrival is expected to bring added tactical depth and player development expertise to the dugout.
“Coach Steven is a longtime friend, and when the opportunity came to work with him again, I couldn’t say no,” Mugerwa said after putting pen to paper. “Lugazi is a promising project filled with young talent. I enjoy working with young players, and we want to build a team that not only competes but also entertains.”
“Our goal is to create a fortress at Lugazi FC Stadium, one where results are earned through hard work and exciting football. We’re here to build together,” he added.
Meanwhile, the club confirmed the departure of Coach Oliver Mbekeka following the expiration of her contract.
