The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced new qualification requirements for football coaches and club Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), set to take effect at the beginning of the 2025/26 season.
The revised regulations are part of a wider overhaul of the Club Licensing Regulations, aimed at raising the standards of technical and administrative leadership within Ugandan football. The changes align with FUFA’s long-term vision outlined in its Club Licensing System and Technical Master Plan.
Under the new guidelines:
Uganda Premier League (UPL) clubs will be required to appoint head coaches who hold a CAF A Coaching Diploma, the highest coaching qualification in Africa.
FUFA Big League (FBL) and FUFA Women Super League (FWSL) clubs must hire head coaches with at least a CAF B Coaching Diploma.
FUFA explained that the move follows several years of capacity-building efforts designed to equip local coaches with globally competitive skills.
On the administrative side, FUFA has also introduced mandatory certification for CEOs:
UPL clubs must appoint CEOs with a minimum FAMACO III certificate.
FBL and FWSL clubs must ensure their CEOs possess at least a FAMACO II certificate.
FAMACO, which stands for Football Administration and Management Course, is FUFA’s official training program for football administrators.
All clubs must meet these new qualifications during the 2025/26 licensing process or face disqualification from their respective competitions.
