The Federation of Motorsport Uganda (FMU) had just dropped a bombshell: the upcoming round 5 Garuga event would double as a selection round for the team to participate in the African Nations Championship in Namibia, August 2026. This news ignited a fierce competitive spirit among the riders. Every lap, every jump, every turn now carried the weight of national team aspirations.
The stakes were particularly high in the MX1 class, where the title fight was rapidly intensifying. Garuga’s notorious sandy track, unforgiving to even the slightest error, promised a brutal test. Recent rounds had seen a thrilling battle for supremacy, with Miguel Katende, Jerome Mubiru, Isma Mukiibi, and Gift Ssebuguzi all vying for crucial points.

Uganda Motocross Club, the diligent organizers of the event scheduled for Sunday, June 14th, confirmed an impressive 85 entries, with the MX65cc class boasting the highest participation at 22 young hopefuls. The riders were already tearing up the Victoria Raceway Park, honing their skills and learning the track’s nuances.
The anticipation was palpable as the track prepared for its customary Friday closure, allowing organizers to meticulously finalize the ripping and preparation. Adding to the excitement, Mountain Dew, a steadfast sponsor, had once again ensured significant track upgrades, forcing riders to adapt to new sections and discover fresh, faster lines.
Meanwhile, Arthur Blick Jnr, a prominent figure in Ugandan motocross, shared exciting news on the international front. Uganda would be proudly sending a team of nine talented riders to represent the nation at the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship on July 4th and 5th in the Czech Republic.
