In a pivotal Pepsi University Football League match on Thursday, the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Busitema University at their Mbale campus.

This win propelled IUIU to the top of group A, accumulating 11 points from five games.

Defending champions Nkumba University, who previously led the group, dropped to second place with 10 points from five games.

The match was crucial for both teams, with quarterfinal aspirations on the line. IUIU’s victory not only advanced their position but also set the stage for a thrilling final group-stage showdown against Nkumba University in Entebbe on Wednesday next week, which is anticipated to determine the group winner.

When the two sides faced off in the first leg the tie ended in stalemate. A win for Nkumba will see them go top of the group while IUIU only need a point to secure quarterfinal.

The University Football League continues to captivate fans with its competitive matches and shifting standings, promising an exciting remainder of the season.
