The JT Lady Jaguars narrowly defeated the UCU Lady Canons 57-52 in a thrilling National Basketball League encounter at the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Wednesday.
The Lady Canons started strong, scoring the first 10 points unanswered and maintaining control to finish the first quarter with a nine-point lead. However, the Jaguars fought back in the second quarter, with Maimuna Nabbosa and Brenda Kayaga hitting crucial three-pointers to swing momentum. With five minutes left in the half, the Jaguars took a 24-21 lead, and by halftime, the game was tied at 30-30.
UCU responded in the third quarter, with Shillah Lamunu sinking two three-pointers to give her team a slim 47-44 lead heading into the final period. But the fourth quarter belonged to the Jaguars, as UCU managed only five points. Nabbosa led the charge with a team-high 12 points, while Lamunu, Sylvia Nantongo, and Martina Anyango all scored in double figures for UCU in a losing effort.
Other Women’s Games
Nabisunsa Girls dominated Nkumba Lady Marines 68-54, extending Nkumba’s losing streak to nine games. Mpoza Abigail starred with 29 points, six rebounds, and six assists, while Abifaith Musiimenta added 11 points and Juliet Ezaga pulled down 13 rebounds. Nabisunsa shot 48% in the first half, taking a 39-25 lead into the break.
Meanwhile, the Magic Stormers held off Miracle Eaglets 65-62, thanks to Daphine Adong’s all-around performance (16 points, nine rebounds, five assists, five steals). Akello Winnifred led the Eaglets with 20 points and 16 rebounds.
Men’s League Action
The Rezlife Saints crushed the KIU Titans 84-59, handing KIU their sixth straight loss. Leonardo Gilabi posted a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) for Rezlife, while Daniel Odonkyero scored 22 for KIU.
UCU Canons continued their strong form with a 74-60 win over Livingstone, led by Marvin Okurut’s 21 points. Livingstone, with just one win in nine games, struggled to keep pace.
At YMCA, Sommet BC defeated the Victoria Crocs 67-60, with John Teko delivering a standout performance (19 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks).
