Uganda Premier League Today, 8pm
Vipers v KCCA
Uganda Premier League leaders KCCA FC face their biggest test of the season tonight when they visit champions Vipers SC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende a venue that has rarely been kind to them.
The Kasasiro Boys arrive brimming with confidence, unbeaten in their opening five matches and leading the table with 11 points under coach Jackson Magera. Their attack has looked fluid and clinical, producing back-to-back wins over Express and Calvary. But to remain top, they must overcome a ground where they have not tasted victory since Mustafa Kizza’s late penalty handed them a narrow win two seasons ago.

Vipers, though placed 13th, are far from struggling. Their position is distorted by their limited league involvement due to CAF Champions League commitments. The Venoms returned to domestic duty last week with a narrow 1-0 victory over Entebbe UPPC, courtesy of Abdulkarim Watambala’s strike, and now seek to make a statement against their long-time rivals.
Head coach Ivan Minnaert believes this is the moment to restore authority at home. “We want Kitende to remain a fortress. No team should leave with points,” he warned, confirming that playmaker Allan Okello will return to face his former club.

KCCA, who last lifted the league title six years ago, see this fixture as more than just a rivalry it’s a test of their championship credentials. “We’re in good form but must stay compact at the back,” said Magera. “You can’t afford mistakes against a side like Vipers.”
With both clubs chasing different forms of redemption Vipers from continental heartbreak and KCCA from years of near misses the stage is set for another chapter in Uganda’s fiercest football rivalry under the bright lights of Kitende.
