Lwakataka ready for championship fight after early shot with Mbarara Rally win

The dynamic crew of Ponsiano Lwakataka and Paul Musaazi, driving their Subaru Impreza N12B, crushed to victory in the first round of the 2025 National Rally Championship calendar dubbed as Lumala@60, Mum@90, held in the Western part of the Country, Mbarara.

Lwakataka clocked an impressive time of 1:12:59.4 and reminded fellow competitor of what he posses and the history of the Mbarara as he said, “Am ready for the challenge and competition over this year’s championship.

“Am happy for this win more so if I have beaten powerful car. Just like in football, successful clubs don’t just buy balls but they get good players. Am that Ronaldo or Mo Salah to lift the club. Rally is not all about powerful cars but fighting driver. I fought and thank God am paid off,” stated joyous Lwakataka.

In rally history, Mbarara Rally winners usually end up taking the year’s championship. “This year am ready to fight for the championship and competitors should stay warned that Mafu Mafu is back and ready to fight for the championship,” the 2008 champion added.

Ronald Ssebuguzi finished second after posting a total time of 1:15:34.9 with 2010 champion, Nasser Mutebi sealing the podium places on 1:16:26.0 total time posted.

Yassin Nasser’s NEMO finished fourth on its return to Ugandan soil.

In the 2WD, Edward Kirumira co-driven by Monica Birwinyo in a Toyota Coarona, posted a 1:31:38.1 time to win the category as Haji Amiri Kavuma on 1:34:07.6 and Julius ‘Mukalo’ Ssemambo on 1:35:54.9 finished second and third respectively.
