Young defender Yusuf Mafabi is confident that his move from Mbarara City to Lugazi FC will take his football journey to the next level.
Speaking after sealing the deal, the 21-year-old expressed his enthusiasm for joining what he described as an ambitious and well-run club.
“It’s an amazing feeling. I’m truly grateful to be among the few players given the opportunity to play for such a great team,” Mafabi said. “Lugazi has a solid management structure, a competent technical team, and most importantly, it supports young players to grow. I’m ready to work hard and justify the faith they’ve placed in me.”
Mafabi was a standout performer for Mbarara City during the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League season, making 22 appearances and playing a key role in helping the Ankole Lions avoid relegation.
His football journey began at True Vine Soccer Academy and Kyetume Junior Team, where his potential was evident early on. In 2020, he joined Arua Hill SC, balancing top-flight football with appearances for Gombe High School and Buddo SS in national schools’ competitions.
In 2023, he made the switch to Mbarara City and quickly cemented his place in the starting lineup, contributing to their respectable 12th place finish in the league.
Now at Lugazi, Mafabi is eager to make an impact and continue his rise in Ugandan football. The club believes his defensive solidity and experience will be a valuable asset as they look to build a competitive squad for the coming season.
