Masaka Secondary School emerged as the football champions in the Masaka region during the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) tournament which took place from April 8th to 13th in Lyantonde. It saw 47 schools participate in the competition.
They secured the title by defeating Notre Dame High School with a 2-0 victory with Mukisa Thomas scoring in the first half and captain Shabil Lubega sealing the win in the second half. Norte Dame High School put up a good fight, but Masaka SS’ strong defense and strategic gameplay ultimately led to their victory.

Masaka SS, Notre Dame High School, and Wagwa High School have all qualified for the next level of the tournament at the national stage which will take place from May 5th to 15th at Ngora High School.
Wagwa High School secured the third spot after defeating St. Henry’s Kitovu 9-8 on penalties in the third-place playoff. The match had ended goalless after regular time, and Wagwa High School showed their skill and composure in the penalty shootout.
The qualifiers were hosted by St. Gonzaga Kijjukizo, and the tournament saw some exciting matches and impressive performances from the participating teams. The success of the Masaka Zone teams in the nationals will depend on their preparation, teamwork, and determination.
The tournament is organized and regulated by the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports.
