Coach Matia Lule has made an immediate impact on his return to topflight football as he guided Police FC to a crucial 2-0 victory over Mbarara City in the Uganda Premier League at Kavumba Recreation Ground.

In what was his first game in charge since replacing Simon Peter Mugerwa, who was relieved of his duties due to poor results, Lule’s side showed improved discipline, structure, and desired qualities that had been lacking in previous games.

Police FC took the lead in the 19th minute through Umar Kasumba, who finished off a well crafted move assisted by Daniel Jakony. The goal gave the hosts confidence, and they went into the halftime break with a deserved 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, Mbarara City pressed for an equalizer, but their efforts were in vain. With ten minutes left, Gaddafi Kacancu sealed the win after being teed up by Male Reagan, making it 2-0.

The win lifted Police FC to 12th on the table with 26 points, providing a vital boost in their battle for survival. Mbarara City, meanwhile, dropped to 13th with 23 points, just three ahead of 14th-placed Wakiso Giants (18 points). Bright Stars (15) and Mbale Heroes (10) complete the bottom three.

With only seven matches remaining, the relegation dogfight promises to be tense, and both Police and Mbarara will need to remain consistent to stay afloat.
