The JKL Lady Dolphins have once again proven why they remain the team to beat in Ugandan women’s basketball, booking their place in the 2025 National Basketball League (NBL) Finals after outlasting UCU Lady Canons in a tense semifinal decider at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Wednesday night.

In a game defined by grit rather than glamour, the defending champions showed championship DNA to edge UCU 59–52 in Game Five and seal the series 3–2. The result sets up a mouthwatering finals showdown with the JT Lady Jaguars, a clash many fans have long anticipated.

Unlike their usual dominant displays, the Dolphins had to fight for every possession. UCU drew first blood, briefly taking control in the second quarter and heading into halftime with a narrow 25–23 advantage. But when the Lady Canons’ rhythm faltered in the second half, JKL seized the moment.

Led by the experienced trio of Zainah Lokwameri, Hope Akello, and Shadia Nassanga—each contributing 11 points—the Dolphins tightened up defensively and executed under pressure when it mattered most.

UCU’s Sylvia Nakituuka posted a valiant 17 points, while Matrina Anyango dominated the boards with 10 rebounds, but their efforts couldn’t prevent JKL’s late surge.

For the Lady Dolphins, this marks yet another step in their pursuit of back-to-back league titles. Head coach Henry Malinga will be looking to sharpen his side further as they prepare to face a well-rested JT Lady Jaguars outfit in what promises to be a thrilling final series.

The stage is now set—two powerhouses, one crown, and everything to play for.
