The 8th edition of the City Tyers East African Badminton Challenge has officially kicked off at the MTN Arena in Lugogo, marking the start of four days of intense competition.

This year’s challenge has attracted participants from all over East Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Cook Islands, India , DRC congo and South Sudan.

The competition features categories for primary schools, secondary schools, universities, companies, veterans, professionals, Coaches and corporates, showcasing the diverse range of players involved.

With a remarkable 1,118 entries, this year’s event has seen a significant increase in participation compared to the previous year.

At the opening event, Mandela Group of Companies Marketing Executive Mahad Twaha assured the sponsorship on a long-term future as one of the key factors for the company to continue engaging with the community.

He noted, “We are very proud of this partnership as we look forward to continue engaging with the community. We find badminton as the genuine route to reach the community. This is our 8th year, and I highly believe that we are with them for many coming years, because we also find it an important cause; it also helps us to nurture young lads.”

In media brief with the Uganda badminton association CEO Mr Simon Mugabi praised city tyres for their continued financial support of the sport.

Mugabi emphasized the broader vision behind the event: “We are committed to ensuring Badminton grows. This competition is going to provide many players with invaluable exposure. It’s truly one of the special events in Ugandan Badminton, consistently attracting a large number of participants across youth, adult, and corporate levels, competing in both team and individual events.”

As the tournament unfolds, the excitement is palpable. Athletes from across East Africa are ready to showcase their skills and represent their countries in what promises to be a thrilling celebration of badminton and camaraderie.
