With less than three weeks to the start of the 2024 Championship of African Nations, the competition is currently facing a sudden postponed has Rora Media understands.
The competition has original been scheduled to run from the 1st to 28th February, 2025 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
According to the update from the CAF headquarters in Cairo, the tournament is set to be shifted to August 2025 but CAF has not yet come out with clear statement.
The 19 countries including Hosts Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya have qualified for the competition.
Tomorrow the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (“KICC”) in Nairobi, Kenya will host the draw for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2025.
The CHAN will be postponed to August 2025 because of reasons like:
- lack of infrastructure
- lack of facilities
- lack of stadiums
- inability to get the full set of teams (17 available for now and we need 19 teams)
- CAF has decided to let all the leagues finish in Africa
- also to give time and adequate preparations for nations likes Algeria, Egypt and South Africa to prepare for the knockout games (mini tournament) and determine who will qualify as I revealed already
