The Uganda Rugby Union has announced the final 12-man squad for the Rugby Africa Men’s 7s tournament, scheduled to take place from June 21 to 22 in Mauritius. Head coach Tolbert Onyango unveiled the team, led by captain Alex Aturinda, who will aim to defend their title.
Tournament Details
The tournament will feature 12 teams competing at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mapou, vying for the continental trophy and a spot in Division 3 of the newly introduced World Rugby 7s Series. Uganda is placed in Group A alongside Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, and arch-rivals Kenya.
Other teams in the competition are South Africa, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Nigeria, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, and Mauritius.
Coach’s Expectations
“We are very excited that the team has prepared well, and we must be at our best since we need to try and defend the title,” said Onyango. He added, “We cannot underrate any team in our group because every team will come out to try and beat the defending champions. But we have a game plan for every match.”

The final squad includes: Alex Aturinda (Captain), Allan Olango, Mubarak Wandera, Mark Osuna, Arnold Ocen, Roy Kizito, Karim Arinaitwe, Malcolm Okello, Aaron Tukei, Denis Etwau, Jones Kamiza, Nobert Okeny. With this squad in place, Uganda aims to make a statement in the tournament and retain their title.
