The Uganda national beach soccer team, the Sand Cranes, has resumed residential training as preparations intensify for the inaugural CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship, now slated for July 7–12 in Mombasa, Kenya.
Following a brief break caused by a shift in the tournament schedule, the 22-man squad regrouped on Monday evening at the Bamboo Gardens Beach Soccer Arena in Kasanje, Wakiso, where they held their first light training session.
The players initially entered camp in May, anticipating a June kick-off. However, CECAFA officials later postponed the tournament due to logistical and organizational delays, prompting a temporary disbandment of the team.
With new dates confirmed, the Sand Cranes are now back under the guidance of head coach Arch Rica Byaruhanga. He is supported by assistant coaches Geofrey Akabwai and Baker Lukooya, while Ssebagala Tonny continues in his role as team manager.
The team will remain in camp throughout the lead-up to the regional showpiece, which marks a historic milestone as CECAFA ventures into beach soccer for the first time.
