Record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa have officially appointed Serbian tactician Kovacevic Zeljko as their new Head Coach, the club confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
“SC Villa, Uganda’s record football champions, is delighted to announce the appointment of Kovacevic Zeljko as the club’s new Head Coach with immediate effect,” read part of the club’s announcement.

Zeljko, a former top-level defender during his playing days, brings with him over 12 years of coaching experience and is widely respected in coaching circles for his mastery of modern football tactics. SC Villa described him as “one of the best tacticians of modern football,” citing his preferred formations and game philosophy as among the qualities that attracted the club to him.
The club expressed confidence that Zeljko’s arrival marks a turning point in their pursuit of long-term success.
“We believe Coach Zeljko’s deep understanding of the game presents an exciting new chapter for our club. With his guidance, we are confident of restoring SC Villa’s dominance on the continent,” the club stated.

Villa management also assured fans of their full support for the new coach, emphasizing the club’s commitment to achieving its goals.
“The club undertakes to fully support him and ensure he meets both his targets and the aspirations of the club within the shortest time possible.”
Zeljko’s immediate task will be to build on last season’s sixth-place finish and guide the club toward a record-extending 18th league title. Preparations are already underway, with preseason training taking place at East High School in Ntinda.
The 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season is scheduled to begin on September 26, with fixtures set to be released on August 26.
