Uganda’s national men’s basketball team, the Silverbacks, have intensified preparations for the upcoming FIBA Africa World Cup Qualifiers by naming a 12-player squad and scheduling a residential training camp in Rwanda.
The team will set up base in Kigali from June 20 to June 30, using the period to sharpen tactics, build chemistry and fine-tune key aspects of their game before heading to Angola for the decisive qualification window.
With the qualifiers set for July 2-5 in Luanda, the Silverbacks are expected to face some of the continent’s strongest basketball nations, making preparation a crucial part of their campaign.
The squad combines experience and youth across all positions. The guard department features Nike Sibande Dejur Jr, Fayed Baale and Edrine Ekau, while Robinson Odoch Opong, Marvin Musiime-Kamali and Blessed Phillip Mbogo provide options on the wings.
The team has also selected versatile forwards Peter Obleng, Deng Geu John and Emmanuel Womala, alongside Jonathan Komagum, Titus Lual Odeke and Joel Paul Kayiira, who are expected to provide strength and presence in the paint.
The Kigali camp will offer the technical bench an opportunity to assess combinations and prepare the squad for the demanding challenge that awaits in Luanda as Uganda seeks to strengthen its position on the road to the World Cup.
