St Lawrence (SLAU) came from a goal down to defeat 2-1 Uganda Christian University (UCU) to storm the Quarterfinals in the University Football League.

Haurna Nyanzi had given UCU a lead at the death of first half. SLAU managed to bounce back in the second half with two goals through Lawrence Mugerwa and Osman Kembo to move top of Group C with ten points, two above top joint UCU and YMCA. Kabale finished bottom with seven points.

SLAU will now face either Ndejje, Makerere or Nkumba in the Quarterfinals that start next week.

Coach Davis Nnono of St Lawrence praised the character of his players.

“We knew how UCU would come out to defend but I told my players that we can break them down. I told them we shall get a moment to win the game which we did,” noted Nnono.

However UCU Coach Jimmy Kintu believes they didn’t do enough but they will bounce back better next season.

“We respected so much the home team. Of course we also had moments to score which we didn’t utilize. But we shall go back and regroup and bounce back a better side next season,” reasoned Kintu.
