The Region 5 Games football finals were held in Windhoek, Namibia, on Sunday, with South Africa and Zambia emerging as champions in the men’s and women’s Under-20 categories, respectively.

South Africa, the African champions, defeated Malawi 3-0 in the men’s final, while Zambia defeated South Africa 2-0 in the women’s decider.

Zambia’s women’s team dominated the tournament, scoring 26 goals in five games without conceding a single one. Their 2-0 victory over South Africa in the final mirrored their group stage meeting, and it was a deserving win for the Zambians.

Namibia won the Fair Play prize, recognizing their sportsmanship and conduct throughout the tournament.

Both South Africa and Zambia retained their COSAFA Under-20 crowns, solidifying their dominance in the region. The tournament showcased the talent and skills of young footballers in the region, and the winners will undoubtedly be proud of their achievements.

The Zambian players swept the individual awards, with:

  • Saliya Mwanza named Player of the Tournament
  • Ruth Mukoma winning the Golden Boot with six goals and three assists
  • Margaret Phiri winning the Golden Glove for best goalkeeper
