“I’m somebody who goes with my gut feeling a lot of the time, and I feel like it’s steered me in the right direction so far,” were the first words from Uganda Cranes midfielder Joel Sserunjogi after completing his switch to StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC.
The 24-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Venoms after leaving KCCA FC, insisting he is convinced the move to St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, is the right decision for the next phase of his career.
“So, I don’t think it’s going to be any different here. I think it’s going to be a great success and I’m really happy to be here,” Sserunjogi added.

His arrival is one of Vipers’ biggest acquisitions ahead of the new campaign as the league champions strengthen their squad for another assault on the Uganda Premier League title, the Stanbic Uganda Cup, the CECAFA Kagame Cup and the CAF Champions League.
Sserunjogi joins Kitende after three productive seasons at KCCA, where he established himself as one of the country’s most reliable midfielders. In more than 100 appearances for the Lugogo side, he earned admiration for his composure on the ball, tactical awareness, accurate passing and ability to control matches from midfield.
His consistent performances also elevated him to the Uganda Cranes, where he has featured in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the African Nations Championship (CHAN), further cementing his reputation as one of the nation’s brightest midfield talents.
Vipers head coach Denis Lavagne believes the midfielder will significantly improve his side.
“Joel is a player with intelligence, personality and great technical quality,” Lavagne said.

“John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda spoke very highly of him and, after studying his qualities, it became clear that he has exactly the profile we were looking for. He will bring creativity, balance and composure to our midfield, and we are delighted to welcome him to Vipers.”
Assistant coach John Luyinda played a pivotal role in the transfer after recommending Sserunjogi, having closely followed his development over the years. His endorsement convinced the club’s technical team to pursue the midfielder as one of their priority signings.
Sserunjogi’s football journey began with Kajjansi United before he announced himself on the national stage by inspiring Busiro to a historic Buganda Masaza Cup title in 2022. That breakthrough earned him a move to KCCA the following year, where his stock continued to rise.
Now, the midfielder begins a fresh challenge at Kitende, with Vipers banking on his experience and quality to strengthen a squad determined to retain domestic supremacy while making a greater impact in continental football.
