The Kampala Region representatives, St. Mary’s Primary School from Rubaga has been crowned the 2024 Odilo Primary Schools Championship after defeating Buganda Region representatives Rays of Grace Primary School (2-0) at Fufa technical center in Njeru.

The talented forward Kato Ramadhan broke the deadlock in the first half before Junior Nsubuga sealed the victory mid way through the second half.

This was the maiden appearance for St. Mary’svwhile Rays of Grace had participated in all four editions winning two of them.

The team coach Sam Lwanga expressed his delight with the victory and appreciated the level of competition in the tournament.

“I’m glad we’ve won the tournament, which we truly deserved because we worked hard for it. The competition has been tough and provided a great challenge for my boys. We’ve worked as a team and the boys have been playing according to our game plan,” he said.

The school headmaster, Edward Rutuha could not hide his excitement after the win and thanked FUFA for organizing such a successful tournament.

“I thank FUFA for this wonderful initiative which helps in identifying and exposing talent. We have participated in various competitions but the Odilo Championship stands out from the welfare to the quality of the competition,” he remarked.

Mr. Rutuha further added, “I will ensure that we always participate in the Odilo tournament and I urge all school proprietors not to neglect sports especially football. They should allocate time and invest in such competitions.”

Meanwhile, Oasis Primary School from Arua clinched third place and went home with bronze medals after defeating St. Catherine of Siena from Hoima (3-1). Goals for Oasis were scored by John Machak, Issa Burben and Fred Ayikobua while Musa Rashid netted the lone goal for St. Catherine of Siena.

Best Goalkeeper: Juma Fazil, St Mary’s Primary School

Top scorer: Ocen Moses, Vision for Children Junior School.

MVP: Ramadhan Kato, St Mary’s Primary School.
