St. Noa Girls Secondary School capped off an undefeated season in style, defeating rivals St. Mary’s Kitende 50-36 in a thrilling final to clinch the 2025 USSSA Basketball Championship in Bukedea.
From the opening whistle, St. Noa took control, storming to a 15-5 first-quarter lead and never relenting. Their fluid offense and stifling defense, anchored by national team stars Bushira Namayanja and Modesta Anyango Maxine, proved too much for Kitende to handle. The duo, fresh from representing Uganda at the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Qualifiers in Egypt, showcased their experience and leadership throughout the game.
Adding to the firepower was Resty Nanangwe, another standout who, alongside Namayanja and Anyango, was part of Uganda’s U18 team that reached the semifinals at the Afrobasket Championship in South Africa. Their international exposure paid off as St. Noa remained composed even when Kitende attempted a second-half rally.

The victory was especially satisfying for St. Noa, who avenged their heartbreaking 31-28 loss to Kitende in the 2024 final. This season, however, they asserted their dominance, having already defeated Kitende twice—54-43 in the USSSA Qualifiers final in Wakiso and 67-49 in another matchup.
Amus College Triumph in Boys’ Final
In the boys’ championship, Amus College School claimed the national title after a commanding 57-42 victory over St. Cyprian.
St. Noa’s triumph marks not only a redemption story but also cements their status as Uganda’s premier girls’ basketball powerhouse.
