The 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season kicked off in spirited fashion on Friday, with Kitara FC held to a 1-1 draw by rivals KCCA FC in Hoima.

The hosts made a dream start when Emmanuel Wasswa struck in the 4th minute, capitalising on a fine assist from Hussein Ssenoga. Kitara looked set to win the game open their title, but KCCA’s late pressure finally paid off in the 84th minute when substitute Sharif Ssengendo equalised after being teed up by Saidi Mayanja.


Elsewhere, Buhimba Saints marked their topflight debut with a narrow but priceless 1-0 win over Entebbe UPPC away. John Kisakye Wesley was the difference maker, finding the net in the 13th minute after good work from Ntege Anwru Mustafa.


In Kampala, Police FC also settled for a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw against Mbarara City at their new Kira Road play ground. Abdulshakur Ramsey Jjemba gave Police the lead in the 26th minute off a Stephen Namaisi assist, but the visitors responded to earn a point through Reagan Matege goal through Mike Walaga assist.
At Njeru, BUL FC and URA FC played out a cagey goalless affair, both sides failing to break down resilient defences.


The most emphatic result of the opening day came from Lugazi, who brushed aside newly promoted Calvary FC 3-1. Paul Waswa opened the scoring in the 19th minute before turning provider for Saaka Yusuf, who doubled the lead ten minutes later. Substitute Sharif Mulindi sealed the victory in the 79th minute, assisted by David Bagoole. Calvary’s only consolation came through Simon Peter Odeke, set up by Steven Nyalimo.
The opening weekend set the tone for what promises to be another fiercely contested Uganda Premier League season.
