After nearly two years of inactivity, the Uganda Netball Women’s Super League bounced back in style with four intense fixtures played on Saturday at Nakivubo Stadium.

UCU Angels impressed on their debut, dominating new league entrants with a commanding 54-35 victory. With a superior goal difference, they top the table after match week one.

But the spotlight belonged to the clash between record champions NIC and KCCA Netball Club, which turned out to be the match of the day. In a tightly contested affair, KCCA edged NIC 40-39, in a repeat of their previous season’s first-leg triumph over the giants.

Fred Mugerwa’s KCCA side showed early dominance, narrowly winning the first quarter 11-10, led by the sharp-shooting Shadia Nassanga, recently returned from a stint in Malaysia. With Nakazibwe Brendah controlling the centre, KCCA pushed ahead, though NIC clawed back to trail by just one at halftime (18-19).

NIC flipped the script in the third quarter, outscoring KCCA 12-8 to take a 30-27 lead. With momentum on their side and a strong start to the final quarter, NIC looked set for victory.

However, KCCA’s defense, anchored by Shaffie Nalwanja, Kitimbo Flavia, and Christine Nakitto, sparked a dramatic turnaround with two key steals. Nassanga then sealed the comeback with the match-winning shot, capping off an epic showdown.

Next Fixtures (Match Day 2):

KCCA vs. Busia Greater Lions

NIC vs. Prisons Netball Club (defending champions)

The league’s return has reignited excitement and promises a thrilling season ahead.
