Uganda aims to defend Africa Aquatics Zone 3 title

Team of 75 Ugandan swimmers has flown off to Bujumbula, Burundi abroad Air Uganda for the 9th edition of Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Champions slated to start tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday.

Swimmers sponsored by Kansai Plascon, are categorised across two categories; age group and masters. Age group include swimmers from 11 years of age to 24 years as the Masters category start from 25 year and above.

Last year in Rwanda, the Ugandan swimming team with 49 swimmers, collected 3,206 points to beat Tanzania on the championship. Team coach, Peter Buvumbo thinks the boys and girls are in better shape than last year to retain the championship.

“We are vying for back-to-back titles. This championship helps us to promote talents and with the team we have travelled with, am sure we will come back victorious,” Buvumbo said.

In last edition, Tanzania was second with 2,753 points followed by Kenya (1,843.504 points), Rwanda (1,348), Burundi (1,291), South Africa (622), Eswatini (162), Eritrea (109), Djibouti (95.50) and Ethiopia on 61 points in tenth position.
