Uganda finishes high at Eastern African Junior Tennis Championships

Team Uganda has finished third at the 2025 International Tennis Federation (ITF)/ Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) Eastern African Junior team championship that concluded yesterday, Thursday at the Nairobi Club with Uganda’s U14 Boys team winning Gold.

To win the boy’s U-14 category, Uganda Cosmas Munguriek and Samuel Okello defeated Kenyan players in singles. The Kenyan duo secured silver in doubles after a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 win over their Ugandan opponents​.

The tournament commenced on 15th to 23rd January at Nairobi with individual and team events in both boys and girls’ Under 14 &16.

Ten Countries participated in this year’s event including; Uganda Karibuni team, Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania among others.

Kenya showcased its dominance clinching three gold medals and topping the team rankings with an impressive total of 1,300 points​.

Kenya’s remarkable tournament concluded with five individual titles from the earlier ITF/CAT Eastern African Junior Individual Championships and qualification for the upcoming Africa Junior Championships and Africa Junior Teams Championships. With 1,300 points, Kenya led the overall rankings ahead of Burundi (820 points) and Uganda (670 points).

Meanwhile, ITF Development Officer for East and Central Africa, Ntwali Thierry, announced that Kenya would host the Under-14 Africa Junior Championship at the end of February.
